BioEndeavor: Health and Sustainability Through the Holidays

Updated: Dec 28, 2021

Sustainable living is not only about the natural and personal resources we use, but also about how we live a more healthy, stress-free, purposeful life-focused on what really matters in our lives. To this effect, we have created a short list of suggestions on how to green your holidays and embark on or continue the journey toward sustainable living in the new year. We hope this will generate new and fruitful discussions with friends and family.

  • Share and try new plant based recipes this season.

  • Consider how you can reduce your foodprint this year.

  • Share these foodprint calculators with friends and family. https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/sustainability/plate-and-planet/ https://www.earthday.org/foodprints-calculators/

  • Plan a holiday decoration repurposing activity for family.

  • Discuss how your family can have a waste-free holiday and celebrations.

  • Start a new green tradition with your friends and family.

  • Rethink cards and even stockings this season to reduce waste.

  • List all of the ways your family can decorate with nature.

  • Share plastic free options with others.

  • Think about what you can share and swap with friends and family.

  • Reuse and repurpose your wrapping.

  • Try to reduce your light and energy related footprint over the holidays.

  • Create a gratitude list with your family before the new year.

  • Discuss how less is best for your family’s financial wellness and how you can live a healthier and more stress-free life.

  • Discuss what you can do as a family to be more sustainable in 2022.

Please feel free to share your thoughts and strategies for greening your holidays and celebrations. You can find a copy of this month’s calendar to share these ideas with friends and family at:

We look forward to our continued discussions and collaborations in the new year.

Our best wishes to you and your family for a healthy, green and prosperous holiday and new year!
