Enabling Open Innovation
in the Life Sciences
BioEndeavor Proposal: Analyzing Knowledge Markets in the Life Sciences
Objectives: Understanding and Enabling Open Innovation in the Life Sciences
There are several complexities driving open innovation-including open source innovation
in the life sciences including:
· knowledge complexities—with knowledge exhibiting high complementarity and high applicability across domains;
· technological complexities associated with interdependencies between technologies, the need for sophisticated equipment, as well as the scope and scale of research;
· and commercialization complexities associated with technology transfer and product development.
BioEndeavor seeks to understand models of open innovation including open source innovation across the life sciences.
By using a network strategy, BioEndeavor further seeks to bring together stakeholders to collectively conduct and share research on open innovation in the life sciences.
Network participants can:
· Join BioEndeavor in the below research projects.
· Share their own research projects and papers via the BioEndeavor portal.
· Share case studies on open innovation in the life sciences.
· Meet to discuss issues surrounding open innovation via BioEndeavor and partner events.
· Add to the open innovation directory to document past and current examples of open innovation initiatives.
· Contact BioEndeavor at info@bioendeavor.net to join and participate on the network.
· Register to receive the BioEndeavor newsletter.
BioEndeavor Research Projecct Phase 1: Target Sectors to be analyzed
· Genomics-Upstream Genomics; Downstream Drug Development
· Synthetic Biology-Upstream research
· Nanotechnology-Upstream research
· Energy and the Environment-Upstream research
Objectives:
· Understanding Knowledge Based Networks as a model of Open Innovation;
· Typology of Network, Knowledge Asset Structure, IT and Policy Infrastructures, Outcomes;
· Repository of Models-Case Studies (Typology, Participants, Knowledge Assets, Outcomes);
· Understanding the Management of Assets in Knowledge Networks;
· Governance and Intellectual Property (IP) Management;
· Repository of Knowledge Management/IP Management Templates/Contracts.
As knowledge networks become more common, it is deemed important to pay attention to broader access and equity issues.
Are knowledge networks open to participants from a wide variety of countries?
